Yogi Adityanath (born Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht) is an Indian politician and Hindu monk who has served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh since March 2017. He is a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is the state's longest-serving chief minister, being the first to hold the office for two full consecutive terms. Adityanath is also the Mahant (head priest) of the Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu monastery in Gorakhpur. He completed his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. His political career began in 1998 when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur, becoming one of the youngest parliamentarians at age 26. He served five consecutive terms as an MP before moving to state politics to assume the CM's office. His governance is often associated with strict law and order policies and large-scale infrastructure and industrial development in Uttar Pradesh.
